Purpose
This policy establishes guidelines for the proper segregation, handling, storage, and disposal of waste generated within the company. It aims to maintain a clean and safe workplace, minimize environmental impact, and comply with applicable waste management and environmental regulations.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, visitors, and other persons using company premises or participating in company activities.
Policy Statement
The company is committed to responsible waste management. All waste must be properly segregated and disposed of only in designated containers and collection areas. Dumping, mixing, burning, or improperly disposing of waste is prohibited.
Waste Segregation
Waste must be separated at the point of disposal using properly identified containers. Waste may be classified as:
- Biodegradable Waste – food scraps and other organic materials.
- Recyclable Waste – paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, glass, metal cans, and other recyclable materials.
- Residual Waste – non-recyclable and non-biodegradable materials intended for final disposal.
- Special or Hazardous Waste – batteries, electronic waste, chemicals, fluorescent lamps, contaminated materials, and similar items requiring special handling.
Special or hazardous waste must never be placed in ordinary waste bins.
Disposal Procedures
Employees must:
- Place waste only in the appropriate labeled containers.
- Keep waste disposal and storage areas clean and unobstructed.
- Avoid mixing segregated waste.
- Dispose of confidential documents through approved shredding or secure disposal procedures.
- Report spills, leaks, damaged waste containers, or improperly disposed materials immediately.
- Follow additional handling instructions for hazardous or special waste.
Waste collected from company premises must be turned over only to authorized personnel, collectors, recyclers, or disposal service providers, as applicable.
Waste Reduction
Employees are encouraged to reduce waste whenever practical by minimizing unnecessary printing, reusing materials, selecting reusable alternatives, and recycling appropriate materials.
Responsibilities
Management shall provide appropriate waste containers, establish designated collection areas, and ensure that waste management procedures are implemented.
Employees and other workplace users are responsible for properly segregating and disposing of the waste they generate.
Assigned administrative or facilities personnel shall oversee waste collection, coordinate with waste service providers, and address waste management concerns.
Prohibited Practices
The following are prohibited:
- Littering or leaving waste outside designated containers.
- Mixing hazardous or special waste with general waste.
- Unauthorized burning, dumping, or disposal of waste.
- Removing recyclable or reusable materials from designated collection areas without authorization.
- Disposing of company records or confidential materials without following approved procedures.
Compliance
All employees and concerned personnel are expected to comply with this policy. Violations may be subject to appropriate corrective or disciplinary action in accordance with company rules and applicable laws and regulations.
Effectivity and Review
This policy shall take effect upon approval by management and shall remain in force until amended or superseded. It may be reviewed periodically to ensure continued suitability and compliance with applicable requirements.
